The recent snowfalls which affected the Draa-Tafilalet region have highlighted the difficulties of access to certain areas, relaunching the debate on the state of road infrastructure, in particular that of the “Ghar Zaabal” tunnel.
Dug during the time of the French protectorate, between 1927 and 1928, the “Zaabal” tunnel remains an essential passage to connect the north and south-east of Morocco. This tunnel, a true heritage of the country’s road history, allows you to cross the High Atlas and still constitutes a strategic axis for the transport of goods and people today.
