World Cup: Morocco, next contender for the world title?

The first African country to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup, Morocco, which will host the African Cup of Nations (CAN 2025), is capable of winning the World Cup in the near future. Sébastien Desabre, coach of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), shows the path to follow.

“The level of the professional game is improving. For more than 10 years in Africa, I have seen changes in CAF, in the federations, in the academies. I know that one day, an African team will surely win the World Cup, because in any case, it is destined for African football,” Sébastien Desabre told the BBC. According to him, the possibility of African nations to win a World Cup will depend above all on the quality of sports infrastructure. “Unfortunately, some fields, some structures, are not up to the level of the objectives of the president (of CAF) or the objectives of the federations. That is why it is more difficult to obtain results in Africa,” noted the French technician. Desabre insists on the fact that the standards of football fields and stadiums in Africa must be improved if a team from the continent is to win the World Cup one day. “(…) we must continue to build stadiums and training grounds to help coaches and players to offer a good show and to obtain good results,” he added.
