Women’s CAN in Morocco: FRMF reacts to speculations

Contrary to information published by South African media, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) assures that Morocco is keen to organize the women’s African Cup of Nations (CAN). The kingdom had hosted the 2022 edition.

South African media recently reported that Morocco has withdrawn from hosting the women’s national team tournament, which will take place from 5 to 26 July 2025, to focus on organising the men’s AFCON, scheduled for 21 December 2025 and 18 January 2026. “We have submitted to CAF our intention to organise the next edition of the women’s AFCON, which has been entrusted to Morocco in the past,” said Danny Jordaan, president of the South African Football Association, SAFA. He added: “CAF must now respond to us. And if the response is positive, we will seize this opportunity, because it will be an opportunity to defend our title (acquired in the final against Morocco, Editor’s note). From what I have been able to learn, there are two or three other countries interested. South Africa is therefore not the only candidate.”
