Why a bridge between Spain and Morocco remains an unattainable dream

Connecting Spain and Morocco by road, a dream that has yet to come true. Indeed, the distance between the two countries at their closest point is only 14.4 kilometers, a seemingly affordable distance for engineers. But this project never saw the light of day, for several reasons.

First of all, the characteristics of the seabed constitute a major obstacle. In some places the depth reaches 900 meters, making it almost impossible to attach the pillars that would support the structure. This technical difficulty is comparable to that of the Channel Tunnel, which connects the north of France to the south of the United Kingdom, but the sea currents of the Strait of Gibraltar are much stronger, which would also compromise the viability of the pillars.
