Watermelons: Morocco loses ground on the European market



In the first half of 2024, Moroccan watermelon exports to Europe fell by 50.31% compared to the same period last year.


Morocco exported 85,090 tons of watermelons in the first six months of 2024, representing a market share of 13.34%. Compared to the same period last year, these exports fell by 50.31%, reports the specialized site Hortoinfociting data from the Euroestacom statistical service (ICEX-Eurostat). Despite this significant decline, Morocco was the second largest supplier of watermelons to the EU markets, behind Spain and ahead of the Netherlands and Turkey. In terms of revenue, Morocco is in third place, behind Spain and the Netherlands. The value of sales of Moroccan watermelons in the EU in the first half of 2024 reached €74.72 million, with an average price of €0.88 per kilo.
