Walid Regragui under fire from critics

Walid RegraguiAtlas Lions coach, has come under fire after the publication of the list of players called up for the Atlas Lions’ upcoming matches against Gabon, scheduled for September 6, and against Lesotho, on September 9, during the first and second days of the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations (CAN 2025).

Some players, sports observers and supporters are unhappy with Walid Regragui. The source of this discontent is the non-call-up of certain players such as Amine Harit of OM, Samy Mmaee and Boukamir for the national football team training camp that began yesterday, in preparation for the first official match that will pit the Atlas Lions against the Gabon team on September 6, and against the Lesotho team three days later at the Adrar Complex in the city of Agadir, as part of the first and second days of qualifying for the next African Cup of Nations (CAN 2025). Still sidelined, Samy Mmaee, who is in top form and performing well, reacted to the list. “Ultimately, it seems to be personal,” the Belgian-Moroccan player commented in a post on his Instagram account. His comments were supported by sports observers. “The fact that Samy Mmaee led Dinamo Zagreb to the Champions League did not allow him to be on the list” while Walid Regragui “on the other hand called up Achraf Dari, who is far from the competition”, castigates a sports analyst. According to him, there is “no logic” on the part of the coach of the Moroccan team Regragui.
