Towards the end of Starbucks in Morocco?

The boycott campaigns launched in several Arab countries such as Morocco, Egypt and Jordan in response to the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip have had significant consequences for the American coffee chain Starbucks managed by the Kuwaiti Alshaya group.

The sale of shares in Starbucks’ Middle East and North Africa (MENA) subsidiary, operated by Kuwaiti group Alshaya, has been postponed. The reason is that boycott campaigns launched in several Arab countries such as Morocco, Egypt and Jordan are preventing bidders from evaluating the company, reports Reuters citing two sources briefed on the process. Alshaya, the operator, is “in no rush” to sell a 30% minority stake in a process dubbed “Project Emerald,” one of the sources said.
