Tourism in Morocco: MREs spend much more than national tourists
Morocco has made record tourist revenues in 2024. According to the Exchange Office, these income reached 112.5 billion dirhams, an increase of 7.5 % compared to the previous year.
In detail, national tourists have spent less than Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) who visited the kingdom in 2024, whose expenses reached 29.4 billion dirhams, which represents a considerable increase of 22, 9 % compared to 2023. In terms of overnight stays, there is a 30 % drop in the share of internal tourism, from 8.6 million in 2023 to 8.5 million in 2024, against 33.5 % In 2023 and 31 % in 2019. On the other hand, the nights of foreign visitors experienced an increase of 16.1 % of tourist nights, thus contributing to significant income for the sector.
