Abdelilah Benkirane, figure of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) and former head of the Moroccan government, made statements that should not please Algeria.

During a meeting of his party, he affirmed that France had proposed to Morocco, after its independence, to recover territories in the east of the country, annexed to Algeria during colonization.
