Thefts on the rise on the Spanish motorway: MREs particularly targeted
The increase in thefts on the AP-7 motorway in Spain in recent months has led the Mossos d’Esquadra to create awareness panels for travellers, particularly Moroccans living abroad (MRE).
Since April, awareness messages posted on road signs on the AP-7 have been warning travellers to be vigilant: “Don’t trust strangers; theft on the motorway; a flat tyre? It could be a scam”. The thieves identify their victims in advance, in service areas. They are usually tourists travelling alone or in pairs, or elderly people. Once the owners are back on the road, the criminals, having already identified the licence plate of the victims’ car, carry out their plans.
