The metamorphosis of Mehdi Carcela, between faith and family
Disappeared from the radar since December 12, 2021 when he scored his 43rd and last goal for Standard, the former Moroccan international Mehdi Carcéla reappeared in mid-October, participating in coaching training for former internationals in Morocco.
For three years, Mehdi Carcela has not given any sign of life. The former number 10 of Standard, then aged 32, disappeared from the radar towards the end of the 2021-2022 season. The Belgian-Moroccan now lives between Belgium and Morocco, more precisely, Casablanca, where his grandmother has a house. The former player likes to spend good times in the economic capital of the kingdom, in the company of his wife and their four children. Last week, Carcela (22 caps with Morocco) took part in training for future coaches in Salé. Organized by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), this one-week course, supervised by Fathi Jamal, development director, and coordinated by Belgian Chris Van Puyvelde, technical director, brought together 32 former Atlas Lions, including Oussama Aissaidi (ex-Liverpool), Ali Boussaboun (ex-Feyenoord) and Nourdin Boukhari (ex-FC Nantes).
