Soufiane El Bakkali almost missed the Olympic Games

Soufiane El Bakkali has once again written the history of Moroccan athletics. The athlete retained his Olympic title in the 3000 meters steeplechase at the Paris 2024 Games, thus giving Morocco its first gold medal of these Games. “It’s a great pride to represent my country and win this second consecutive Olympic gold medal,” said the Moroccan champion after the race. “I went through a difficult season due to an injury, but I worked hard to return to the highest level. I dedicate this title to King Mohammed VI and all Moroccans,” admitting that he had considered not participating in the Paris Olympics.
