Soaring coffee prices in Morocco: why your cup costs more

While Morocco has increased its imports, coffee prices are on an upward trend due to several factors.

Last year, coffee imports reached a volume of 51,191 tonnes, for a value of 2.26 billion dirhams compared to 44,580 tonnes for a value of 1.41 billion dirhams in 2023, an increase in volume 16.18%, indicate data from the Bulletin of the Foreign Exchange Office. The value jumped by 38.19%. The increase in imports is mainly justified by the rise in international coffee prices. Last year, the average price of a kilogram of coffee was 43.78 dirhams compared to 31.68 dirhams in 2023.
