Sex scandal rocks British Council in Morocco

A former British Council employee in Rabat has accused the institution’s top official of sexually harassing her not only in Morocco, but across the Middle East and North Africa region. While the organisation dismissed the victim’s complaint, the East London Employment Tribunal ruled in her favour.

A former director of the British Council in Rabat has been embroiled in a sex scandal. He was found guilty of sexual harassment of his colleague KJ, a British national. She claimed to have been “sexually harassed” and “stalked” by her director (TR) in 2020 not only in Morocco, but also throughout the Middle East and North Africa region. In a statement from KJ’s defense relayed by the site Al-ArabiyaThe court confirmed that the former director of the British Council used to send her messages via the WhatsApp application, including compromising and intimate photos, accompanied by words of love, while the employee was working under him. The employee was “bombarded with gifts, messages of declarations of love”, and the accused “snuck into her house to leave flowers in front of her door”, the court said.
