Sahara: Polisario condemns France’s international support for Morocco

The Polisario Front condemned the remarks of Emmanuel Macron who declared Tuesday before the Moroccan Parliament that France will defend “Moroccan sovereignty” over the Sahara in international bodies. The Sahrawi independence movement believes that this support from Paris will lead to “instability and an escalation of tensions” in the region.

The Polisario “condemns in the strongest terms the shameful position expressed” by Macron, indicated the Sahrawi “ministry” of Information in a press release relayed by the SPS press agency, maintaining that this position is contrary to the Charter of the United Nations and its resolutions concerning Western Sahara, as well as “the responsibilities of the French State as a permanent member of the UN Security Council”.
