Sahara: Algeria denounces France’s “unexpected support” for Morocco

Algeria has reacted strongly to France’s support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara.

In a scathing statement, the Algerian Foreign Ministry expressed its “deep disapproval” of this “unexpected, inopportune and counterproductive” decision. Algiers considers this gesture as a “dubious political calculation” and a “guarantee of a colonial fact”, hindering peace efforts in the region.
