Russians shun Moroccan fish
Russian imports of Moroccan fish and seafood saw a worrying decline in the first quarter of 2024, plummeting to 1,600 tonnes, three times less than in the same period of the previous year.
Russian imports of Moroccan octopus have recorded a significant increase in the first half of 2024, reaching 170 tons, or $2.8 million (about 29.4 million dirhams), Russian media report citing data from the European Union Fisheries and Aquaculture Market Monitoring Service (EUMOFA). This increase is explained by the strong demand for Moroccan octopus, which represents 11% of total Russian imports of Moroccan fish and fruits and whose value exceeds 43% of the total value of Russian imports.
