Rush of French tourists to Morocco

To escape the crowds of tourists at the Paris Olympics, many French people have chosen to travel to sunny destinations such as Morocco, Spain, Greece and Italy to spend their summer holidays. A choice that penalizes professionals in the tourism sector on the Atlantic coast and the Côte d’Azur.

The most popular tourist destinations for the French during this summer period marked by the influx of tourists for the Paris Olympic Games are Greece, Spain, Italy and Morocco… There are also emerging tourist destinations that offer the certainty of escaping the heatwave: Sweden, Norway, Ireland, etc. “There are more French people, particularly Parisians, in our hotels abroad than last year,” notes Patrick Mendes, Managing Director Europe & North Africa of the Accor group, quoted by The Figaro. Didier Arino, director of the Protourisme firm, confirms the mass departures. “This summer, 500,000 more French people than last year went abroad.”
