Risk of tsunami in Morocco? Experts respond
The rumor of the installation of tsunami evacuation signs in coastal cities, as well as the recent circulation of videos on social networks showing the retreat of the sea, have raised concerns among Moroccans who fear the imminent occurrence of a natural disaster.
Moroccan experts reassure: the probability of a tsunami occurring is extremely low. Nasser Jabbour, director of the National Institute of Geophysics under the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research, affirmed that the retreat of sea waters is a normal and predictable phenomenon that occurs at defined periods, and that the current situation on the Moroccan coasts should not cause concern.
