Record price for Moroccan olive oil

In Morocco, olive oil production has fallen dramatically this year, causing prices to soar. Industry professionals are alarmed.

Olive oil production is in free fall. After a very difficult year, the olive trees have not blossomed, warns the Regional Association of Olive Growers of the Marrakech-Safi region in a letter addressed to the regional directorates of the Ministry of Agriculture. This drop in production is mainly due to climate change which has led to a lack of irrigation, a rainfall deficit and heat, explains the president of the Moroccan Interprofessional Federation of Olives (INTERPROLIVE), recalling that the heat recorded in recent years, even during winter and autumn, has had a strong impact on olive oil production.
