Rayan, a 15-year-old teenager, was fatally hit by a car on New Year’s Eve in Strasbourg, while returning from a family evening. The city’s Grand Mosque expressed its “immense sadness” and “deep pain” following this tragedy.
Seriously injured, Rayan died while being transferred to hospital. The driver, a 19-year-old young man who fled, turned himself in to the police on the evening of Wednesday January 1, reports France Blueindicating that the suspect “was known to the courts for being in police custody but without conviction during the riots following the death of young Nahel”. The competent public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for “involuntary manslaughter with a hit-and-run”.
