Rabat: working-class neighborhoods in anguish

The Rabat municipal council met to discuss the city’s new development plan. This project, which aims to modernize the capital, is causing great concern among residents. Some people fear being evicted from their homes and relocated to the outskirts.

The plan includes the construction of high-rise buildings and the destruction of certain houses to make way for new residential and commercial spaces. Mosques, local markets, parking lots and green spaces are also planned, as well as an esplanade with a view of the sea.
