Rabat no longer wants its car garages
Rabat is stepping up its preparations for hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host alongside Spain and Portugal. A lot of development work has been undertaken in one of its oldest and most famous districts. But changes that are not necessarily to everyone’s liking.
Many development works are underway to change the appearance of the Ocean district. They follow the surprising decision of the new mayor of Rabat Fatiha El Moudni ordering repair shops and car garages, managed by companies or self-employed, in the Ocean district, to close their establishments or change their activities within 15 days, due to the lack of administrative authorization for the exploitation of the public domain. This decision has aroused the incomprehension of all users and owners of these establishments, some of which have been open for more than 60 years in the same district located in the heart of the capital.
