Rumors and smear campaigns targeting cities in northern Morocco on social networks are harming tourist activity in this region, which is popular with tourists during the summer season.
“At the beginning of each summer season, rumors about the tourism sector intensify, ranging from the appearance of sharks attacking vacationers via doctored videos relayed on social networks, to the proliferation of pages on Facebook protesting against high prices, through the distribution of anonymous invoices,” condemns the editorialist ofAl-Akhbarconsidering that “the tourist or customer remains free to accept or leave the premises after having consulted the menu and the list of services offered”.
