Netherlands: embezzlement for the benefit of Morocco
In the Netherlands, Moroccan entrepreneurs embezzled public funds intended for deradicalization and integration, then transferred them to Morocco before reinvesting them in a project.
While they were paid by the municipality to fight radicalization and promote integration, three Moroccan entrepreneurs used the funds for other purposes. The case was then brought before the Rotterdam court last December. But the Public Prosecution Service (OM) blocked the proceedings on the grounds that it had reached a deal with the suspects, thus canceling the trial. This decision provoked a strong reaction on social networks. Some Internet users suspected OM of wanting to cover up the affair.
