MREs victims of soaring ticket prices

In Parliament, Mohamed Abdeljalil, Minister of Transport and Logistics, explained once again the increase in ticket prices for Moroccans residing in Morocco (MRE) wishing to join Morocco this summer as part of Operation Marhaba.

A major obstacle is preventing many Moroccans living abroad (MRE) from returning home this summer. This is the surge in ticket prices: 6,000 dirhams per person by plane, and 4,000 dirhams for the boat trip. Concerned by the situation, opposition MPs, during the weekly question session in the House of Representatives, asked the Minister of Transport and Logistics to set up exceptional support for the Moroccan diaspora (more than 5 million MRE). In a statement to the website Al-OmkMohamed Lahmouch, member of the Haraki group in the House of Representatives, stressed the need for the Moroccan state to contribute to reducing travel costs to ease the burden on the community. The latter contributes significantly to the development of the Moroccan economy through the provision of foreign currency and investments, especially in a context of continuous increase in community transfers which have reached record levels in recent years, he said. In 2023, MRE transfers exceeded 100 billion dirhams.
