Moudawana: major advances for MREs
Launched in 2022 by King Mohammed VI, the revision of the Family Code (Moudawana) is on the verge of becoming a reality. The text includes proposals that respond to certain grievances of Moroccans living abroad (MRE).
After two years of consultations, the reform of the Family Code presented during a communication on Tuesday December 24, 2024 at the headquarters of the Academy of the Kingdom in Rabat should soon be completed. The Superior Council of Ulemas, the body responsible for this project, proposes 139 modifications. Among these, the revision of exemptions for marrying minors, and the extension of women’s rights in matters of guardianship and custody of children. Some proposals also concern Moroccans living abroad (MRE).
