Morocco: why the F-35s are a game changer in the region
Morocco will be able to receive in the coming months the 32 F-35 fighters that it has ordered from the American company Lockheed Martin.
The normalization in December 2020 of relations between Morocco and Israel, within the framework of the Abraham Accords under the aegis of the United States, facilitated the acquisition of these fighters by the kingdom. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had opposed the sale of the F-35 to any country that did not recognize the State of Israel. With the purchase of these fighters from Lockheed Martin, Morocco will become the first Arab and African country to have a fleet of fifth-generation American stealth aircraft.
