Morocco: Where is the recovery of tourism one year after the earthquake?



Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Crafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, takes stock of the actions implemented in the sectors for which she is responsible, as part of the reconstruction and recovery program launched by the government following the devastating earthquake that struck Morocco on September 8, 2023.


One year after the Al Haouz earthquake, it is time to take stock. What has been done to get life back to normal in the regions affected by this natural disaster? Beyond the rehabilitation of infrastructure, what concrete actions have been taken to revive tourism and crafts and boost local economic growth? To these questions, Fatim-Zahra Ammor answers: “Our teams, accompanied by local authorities, carried out a detailed inventory followed by an on-the-ground assessment to precisely assess the damage in tourist accommodation establishments (EHT)”, she confides.
