Morocco: tracking down criminals is bearing fruit
The year 2024 was marked by a crime resolution rate of 95% in Morocco, according to data from the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN). This figure is part of a trend observed over the last eight years. The DGSN’s annual report shows a slight increase in the total number of cases handled, with 755,541 cases in 2024, compared to 738,748 in 2023.
A 10% decrease in violent crime was noted. This reduction translates into a reduction of 24% in thefts under threat, 20% in vehicle thefts, 12% in violent thefts and 10% in burglaries. Sexual assaults and drug offenses also decreased, by 4% and 7% respectively. Attacks on banks fell by 45%. Violent crimes represent 7% of total cases, or 49,838 cases. 947 gangs specializing in theft were dismantled and 1,561 individuals arrested during the year.
