Morocco: towards a massive shutdown of IPTV platforms?
An operation carried out Thursday by Italian law enforcement, in collaboration with their Chinese counterparts and with the support of Europol, led to the dismantling of an international illegal streaming network from which 22 million users worldwide benefited. Moroccans, used to pirating television channels via IPTV, could be affected by this operation.
More than 270 Italian police officers and agents from 14 other countries participated in this vast operation to dismantle this vast network which allowed around 22 million users to have free access to more than 2,500 pay channels, particularly sports. Losses for rights holders are estimated at 10 billion euros. The searches carried out in 15 Italian regions and in countries such as Croatia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and China led to the seizure of 1.65 million euros in cryptocurrencies, 40,000 euros in cash, and nine servers.
