Morocco: Taxis do not want to pay for refusals

The National Federation of Taxi License Operators has spoken out following statements by Abdellatif Ouahbi, Minister of Justice, regarding the sanctions provided for in the new draft penal code for taxi drivers refusing ridesThe minister had mentioned the possible criminalisation of such behaviour, which provoked an outcry from professionals in the sector.

The Federation denounces the remarks as “out of context” and recalls that the sector is governed by circulars and decisions of the Ministry of the Interior, and not by laws. Redouane Abouihi, Secretary General of the Federation, believes that it would be more useful to finally legislate on the sector, a 30-year-old demand, rather than attacking the drivers.
