Morocco-Spain tunnel: Madrid-Casablanca in 5 hours

The tunnel project having to link Punta Paloma, Spain, Punta Malabata, Morocco, of capital importance for the two countries.

The tunnel under the strait to connect Spain to Morocco is 38.5 kilometers long, including 27.7 underwater kilometers. This underground passage should connect Punta Paloma, near Tarifa, in Tangier in Morocco. This route “will promote the development of transport networks between Spain and Morocco and will create an unprecedented space of cooperation between the European Union and the Maghreb”, had assured the Spanish Society of Studies for Fixed Communications through the Strait of Gibraltar (Secegsa). According to the Spanish authorities, the tunnel will connect Madrid and Casablanca in five and a half hours, which is faster than the current 12 -hour journey by car and ferry. It could also allow passengers to travel the journey of approximately 39 km very quickly.
