Morocco: sheep prices soar, Eid al-Adha threatened?

Will Moroccans be able to buy sheep for the Eid al-Adha sacrifice this year? About five months before the celebration of this holiday, concern is growing over the dizzying rise in the prices of these animals.
Prices for sheep for slaughter this year will exceed levels recorded last year, according to livestock breeders. Moroccans “will not be spared this year from the surge in prices, given that sheep prices remain high, although a slight decline has been observed in certain regions recently,” they specify. This increase in prices would be due to “the lack of precipitation this year, which did not make it possible to reduce the costs of fodder and animal feed. For example, the price of a bunch of alfalfa reaches 110 dirhams.”
