Morocco protects its caftan against Algeria
Morocco strives to preserve and develop the image of its caftan due to the numerous attempts to appropriate this traditional garment by certain countries including Algeria.
The examination and development of specifications and usage regulations for the creation of a label and a collective certification mark for the Moroccan caftan were at the heart of a workshop organized Friday in Fez by the Ministry of Tourism, Crafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy in collaboration with the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity through the Marrakech Crafts Training and Qualification Center. “Faced with growing unfair competition, the ministry launched a project to label the Moroccan caftan,” said Moha Errich, director of Heritage Preservation, Innovation and Promotion at the Ministry of Tourism, Crafts. and the Social and Solidarity Economy, making it known that it is a question of creating a collective certification mark which will facilitate the marketing of the caftan on a national and international scale, while guaranteeing its authenticity.
