Morocco: proliferation of “itinerant bakeries”

The Moroccan Observatory for Consumer Protection has filed a complaint with Marrakech authorities concerning the proliferation of informal bread and pastries shops, real “itinerant bakeries”.

According to the Observatory, these businesses, which do not have legal authorizations and do not meet hygiene standards, create unfair competition towards bakeries and pastries established legally. The latter must withstand significant financial charges, such as taxes, social security contributions and fees for the use of the public domain, unlike informal businesses.
