Morocco positions itself as a future clean energy hub for Europe
On the sidelines of President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to Rabat, the Office Cherifien des Phosphates (OCP) entered into a partnership with Engie, a French industrial energy group, for projects in green hydrogen, renewable energy. What to learn from this agreement?
OCP and Engie have agreed on an investment plan of 17 billion euros to strengthen energy self-sufficiency and support the kingdom’s green transition. Four major projects will be implemented under this agreement. This involves the establishment of a renewable energy production unit with flexible storage, the construction of an infrastructure for the transmission of electricity to OCP sites, a desalination for agricultural regions, as well as the production of green ammonia, essential for the activities of the Moroccan fertilizer giant.
