Morocco: launch of construction of a giant battery factory
The Chinese group Gotion High-Tech has officially launched work on its electric battery Gigafactory in Morocco, the first in Africa and the Middle East.
This giant battery factory for electric vehicles will be built in the Atlantic Free Zone of Kenitra. Earthworks have started on an area of 156 hectares. With a total cost of 65 billion dirhams, the project should be completed by 2026. According to Challengeof the largest industrial project in Morocco after the Renault factory in Tangier. With this project, the kingdom intends to establish itself as a leader in renewable energies and green mobility in Africa and the Middle East.
