Morocco: Heavy Sanctions for Taxi Drivers

In Morocco, fines will now be imposed on taxi drivers who refuse to transport customers to their chosen destinations. Other measures are also planned.

After addressing repeated complaints from passengers about the refusal of some drivers to transport them to short-distance destinations, Moroccan authorities have taken some measures. These drivers will have to pay fines of several hundred dirhams. Another sanction: the confiscation of their vehicles for at least 15 days. This decision, which will come into force on August 20, is part of efforts to improve services in the public transport sector and reduce abuses that negatively affect the quality of service offered to citizens. There are mechanisms to monitor and track drivers’ commitment to these measures, including the receipt and prompt and effective processing of complaints.
