Morocco: family record books sold at a high price

In Morocco, individuals are taking advantage of the shortage of family record books noted in certain municipalities due to the shortage of remaining stocks, to sell these documents at high prices.

Family record books are sold for 1,000 dirhams on the black market. This is what is being observed on the ground. Due to the shortage of these essential documents for carrying out daily administrative procedures, Moroccans have two options: wait a long time to obtain the booklet through official channels, or pay huge sums to obtain it illegally. Informed, local authorities are trying to put an end to this bad practice. They have strengthened control over the distribution of family record books and sanctioned illegal practices. Measures should also be taken to improve the supply of these documents, in order to meet the growing demand and ensure that families can obtain them legally.
