Morocco: falsification of land titles sends official to prison

A former employee of the land conservation service of Beni Makada, in Tangier, was sentenced to one year in prison for falsifying official documents and using forgeries, at the end of a trial marked by twists and turns and many areas of ‘shadow.

The man, who had already spent a year and a half in pre-trial detention, was accused of having falsified land titles and registration decisions. An expert opinion, however, revealed that the disputed signatures were indeed those of the curator. The defense then denounced the relentlessness of the administration, motivated, according to it, by personal differences between the accused and his superiors.
