Morocco: elected officials in prison for corruption



The prosecution of the Court of Appeal of Kenitra ordered the detention of five municipal councilors, accused of corruption in the context of the upcoming election of the new president of the City Council, to replace the old one, dismissed.


Mohamed Talmoust, of the Democratic and Social Movement, and Abdallah Mbirik, of the Moroccan Union for Democracy, were detained at the local prison in Kenitra, while Najla Dahaji and Bouchra Bouhaddioui, of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) , and Khayra Anahari, of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS), were incarcerated at the local prison of Souk El Arbaa in Gharb, reports Mohamed El Ghalloussi, president of the Moroccan Association for the Protection of Public Money, specifying that the suspects are accused of corruption, in particular the distribution of gifts, bribes and promises in the run-up to the election of the new president of the Municipal Council of Kenitra.
