Morocco dominates African tourism rankings

Morocco has overtaken South Africa in the African tourism rankings for the first time, according to a report by a Spanish firm.

According to the latest 2024-2025 Country Brand Ranking/Tourism Edition report by Spanish firm Bloom Consulting, Morocco ranks second in Africa’s tourism rankings ahead of South Africa and behind Egypt, cementing its reputation as a leading tourist destination on the continent. The kingdom owes its position to progress made in social media engagement, online performance and overall destination appeal. The report also highlights Morocco’s resilience in the face of challenges, including the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck central Morocco, killing 2,862 people and injuring around 6,000. “The country’s resilience in the face of challenges, such as the recent earthquake in September 2023, will be crucial in shaping its future tourism landscape and will provide relevant data for the analysis of future rankings,” the report states.
