Morocco causes rain, Spain worries

Morocco’s use of the cloud seeding technique to cause rain in order to deal with the adverse effects of drought continues to raise concerns in Spain where meteorological experts raise fears about the consequences of this practice on rainfall in the region.

Morocco uses the cloud seeding technique to induce precipitation and deal with water scarcity. The kingdom has been facing a persistent drought for almost six years which is drying up water reservoirs whose capacity has fallen to 29%. Moroccan authorities have already invested more than nine million euros in the implementation of the “Al Ghait” cloud seeding program which is expected to continue until 2025, the objective being to increase rainfall by approximately 20%.
