Morocco-Argentina match: the controversy grows
Morocco beat Argentina (2-1) on the first day of the Olympic football tournament, Wednesday in Saint-Étienne. A victory for the Atlas Lions against a backdrop of controversy.
The first match of this first day of the Paris Olympics, between Argentina and Morocco, will have left its mark. While the Atlas Lions were leading 2 goals to 1, the Albiceleste equalized in the 16th minute of added time. This equalizing goal aroused the anger of some supposedly Moroccan supporters who invaded the pitch of the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium, forcing the referee to suspend the match and invite the players to return to the locker room, without blowing the final whistle. The score at that time was 2 goals each.
