Morocco, a threat to Spain? The conflict hypothesis analyzed

Morocco is said to be a threat to Spain’s security due to its persistent claims to Sebta, Melilla, and Spanish islands and rocks. But an open armed conflict between the two countries is not possible, some analysts believe.

“I say it publicly, and I am the only one to say it, that Morocco is our geopolitical, economic and military enemy,” declared a few weeks ago, Alvise Pérez who announced that he would go to the Canary Islands after the summer, along with a group of retired senior army officers, to prepare for any possible attack from Morocco. According to him, the kingdom could before 2030 “take the decision to invade the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla from all sides”. This hypothesis is unfounded, say some analysts with The confidentialmaintaining that Morocco does not plan to “imminently” invade the Canary Islands or the autonomous cities of Sebta and Melilla.
