Morocco: a tax for the richest
The debate on the taxation of the richest resurfaced in Morocco. After an initial rejection, the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT) is relaunching the idea of a wealth tax in the Chamber of Advisors.
As part of its amendments to the finance bill for 2025, the CDT proposes to tax bank deposits and accounts, real estate, as well as the shares and bonds of the wealthiest. The envisaged tax rate would be 0.20% for assets between 10 and 100 million dirhams, and 0.25% for those exceeding 100 million dirhams.
