Morocco: a judge sees her sentence reduced after an apology



The Casablanca Court of Appeal decided on Wednesday to reduce from three years to eight months in prison the sentence handed down against a retired magistrate, accused of defamation, contempt of court and the judicial police, and in detention at Oukacha prison.


The accused was prosecuted for “dissemination of false allegations and facts with the aim of violating the private lives of people and defaming them, contempt of court, contempt of the judicial police, contempt of a legally constituted body, contempt court decisions through comments aimed at harming the judiciary and its independence, as well as public statements intended to influence the decisions of judges before a final judgment is rendered. »
