Morocco: a human rights defender taken to court for his comments on the Sahara

Aziz Ghali, president of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH), was before the Rabat court of first instance on Wednesday, accused of “undermining the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and public security”. His trial was postponed until January 8, 2025.

The subject of the dispute? Statements by Ghali in an interview where he discussed the question of the Moroccan Sahara. The Al-Karama Association for the Defense of Human Rights accuses him of having made remarks “undermining the sacred national cause and the dignity of the Moroccan people”. She accuses him in particular of having disseminated “false information and slander” on the Moroccan Sahara issue and the events of Gdeim Izik.
