Morocco: 10 years in prison for raping a minor and refusing to marry her
The Tangier court of first instance sentenced a young man, prosecuted for rape of a minor, to a 10-year prison sentence accompanied by a fine of 50,000 dirhams.
The young man was arrested after raping the minor, aged 14 at the time of the incident. Subsequently, he will be released by order of the King’s Attorney General after committing to take the victim as his wife. But upon his release from prison, he settled for a traditional marriage with the little girl. The two lived together in the accused’s family home for more than two years and had a child who unfortunately passed away.
